Walkover Surveys

Understanding Your Rivers

OART have extensive experience of conducting sub-catchment walkover surveys to gather a wide range of information with over 200km of rivers walked to date. These surveys enable us to understand where improvements could be made but also where the river is in good health.

We use Water Framework Directive classifications to prioritize these surveys as well as working with local authorities where flood risk to property is a concern and Natural Flood Management solutions may be appropriate. We also undertake individual surveys for landowners and managers looking to make improvements or understand more about their waterways.

From the results we work with landowners, partners and stakeholders to develop projects which aim to help everyone, from preventing soil loss and improving water quality to creating shade, installing habitat to removing barriers to fish migration these surveys capture everything needed to make healthier river systems.
