Bevern Study

Mar 30, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

OART are assisting Professor Anne Robertson of Roehampton University with her research into the hyporheic zone of the Bevern stream in the Ouse catchment.

The hyporheic zone is the area beneath the stream bed and it is connected to both the surface stream and to the underlying groundwater. It is functionally important for the breakdown of pollutants, as a refuge for stream animals during disturbances such as flooding and drought and as a habitat for animals. However, it is not normally monitored and so it is difficult to know whether its function changes across space and over time. Professor Robertson is developing a simple method to monitor hyporheic zone functioning and we are piloting this in the Bevern Stream.

If you are interested in getting involved with the sampling, please email: info@oart.org.uk for details.
